News from PIE Meeting October 2022

The Steering Committee of World Pulse, Powershift Inclusive Excellence (PIE) was created as a decision-making body, bringing Board, Staff and Community members together to be able to discuss and guide our collective global movement forward, with inclusivity and ensuring the participation of under-represented voices. In our October meeting we again acknowledged this rare gift of being able to work together, celebrating our newest PIE members and diving into discussion.

This opportunity to meet on equal footing as Board, Staff and Community members, all so deeply committed, has been and continues to be such a welcome and expansive journey. Our feelings are profound and deep, just as they are throughout World Pulse, celebrating that we are able to work so closely together here. Holding the whole of World Pulse in our hearts we create this magnificent web in which we are all able to meet. Within PIE we are focused on the growth and stability of World Pulse. What we hold in common is that this Platform has become our deeply cherished global home. 

We experience the joy of working together in new ways and with new blends of ideas as we meet in this Circle. In our recent meeting we welcomed new members from the Community joining us for the first time, knowing each other through our stories and the interweaving of this global web that we are all able to be part of now. As World Pulse sisters do, we celebrated and honoured this chance to work together.

The Audit Sub-Committee of PIE was formed in April 2021 as a working group within PIE, a place for us to meet, talk over and plan together how and in what ways to move forward, within PIE and within the leadership of World Pulse as a whole. As a community member of this committee I have deep respect that World Pulse within its leadership has developed PIE, a place to work together. Within PIE sits the Audit Committee. Both bodies include members of the Board, Staff and Community. 

In our recent meeting on October 20, 2022 we dove into what is a continuing process of establishing a facilitator from an outside agency to lead our discussions within PIE and the Board as we create this path forward. A series of individual interviews and group discussions on the choice of a facilitator took place prior to our recent meeting, discussions that have resulted in a pause and call for time for more discussion. We will be continuing to create the best plan forward with the goal that our choice and direction will be more formed, given the opportunity for further discussion together these next months. 

Rarely does leadership in such a gigantic, busy and complex organization take the time to fully allow for discussion by such a well represented cross section of members. The process may be longer and more complicated, but in the spirit of World Pulse we have been invited to offer our perspectives. Decisions are often not easy but within the structure designed for and committed to having as open and deep discussions as possible, and in the spirit of JEDI - Justice, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, we are synthesizing the individual discussions with the group discussion, and charting a way forward together. 

We closed our meeting in gratitude for the chance to be together, speak openly with each other and continue to share news and take part in these monthly meetings together.
