New initiative - Mobility training for the Blind

Practicing steps climbing using the help of white cane by one of our participant guided by Tiffany Brar.

This was one of my dream, to spread the wings out of my state and start a new initiative for training the Blind people in orientation and mobility training. The dream has turned true now and yes, we started this initiative in Ooty, Tamil Nadu.We trained altogether 30 Blind people in Nilgri District, Ooty a multilingual and multicultural district known for its natural charm. The 30 Blind people were trained in indoor and outdoor mobility. Exclusively we trained the Blind people in special techniques like trailing, sighted guide, touch techniques and protective techniques. Also we distributed 8 canes to deserving needy Blind people during the training program.

I could see the active involvement of the Blind participants exclusively in indoor training. Though it was a short term training, we were able to cover majority of the Blind people in the hilly area.

One of the participant who was around 30 years old, gave a feedback saying "that this mobility training has allowed him to reconnect with his love for travelling". This makes me to feel strongly that I should make this initiative in a big scale all over India.

When we join our hands together we can achieve a lot. In that way we conducted this training in collaboration with GARDEN OF SMILES, a well known organisation in Nilgris, working in various charity projects.

Hoping for support and prayers to spread this initiative all over the country.
