Self-confidence

I know many strong and powerful women in my community. And most of us seem to lack self-confidence. I’m not a psychologist. I’m not the one to say how to build self-confidence. The only thing I can say is to share my story.

I used to be a strong and powerful, “rebel-type” teenager. Due to some challenging experiences, I lost it. After a few years, I suddenly realized I ended up in a place, where I started to doubt myself so much, I was stressed to speak up in a meeting. My heart was bumping and I was scared of the opinions of others so much, that I preferred not to speak up. It took me a few years of therapy and a couple of thousands of dollars to go through a healing process. I am still not where I used to be but today I can say my “rebel-type” teenage personality grew up and my self-confidence level is in the right place.

Why am I even writing this? Why would this story be of any interest to anyone?

I write this as a reminder. I would like to remind each and every one of us, that we shall never ever allow anyone to cut even a little piece of ourselves! Once we allow it, it goes fast – the second, the third piece is gone. Self-confidence level goes down. And suddenly you may realize, you are no longer yourself … and the “come back” journey can be really long and painful.

So if someone does not believe in you, doubts your power, or questions your value … please do not buy into it! Leave it with them and do not change the way you think of yourself.

And whenever you tend to doubt yourself, don’t do it! There will be enough people doing it for you …
