Victoria in her school uniform
"I thought I would never go back to school after becoming pregnant during the COVID-19 school lockdowns in 2020-2021. My parents were very angry and disappointed in me so they decided that I should not go back to school. Through the dialogues and drama shows on girl child education held by SARI in my community youth clubs, my parents got a change of heart and deiced to take me back to school. I am "Taking back my pen!" as narrated by Victoria.
Victoria is one of the participants in the "Taking back my pen" campaign that SARI is implementing in partnership with Urgent Action Fund Africa to advance the right to education for girls who have been forced to drop out of school due to early unplanned pregnancies and child labour. The campaign is done through rights awareness and skills development among girls, community dialogues and forums for theatre, dialogues with duty bearers, media conversations and content creation through films, social media messages, position papers, blogs and photography.
