My new technology initiative with Vulnerable girls in my community.

The featured changemaker program was an eye opener on how girls and women with hearing impairment and other Vulnerable women and girls with disabilities could be more self reliant if they are impact with digital skills. It also gave me the opportunity to read up stories and learn about how other World Pulse sisters were impacting girls with and without disabilities in their communities. In fact I gathered that if we are hoping to attain generation equality we should do our possible best to introduce technology to the girl child now especially as these tools are vital for the advancement of women.

I always get my daughter Therese involved when I am searching for new designs for beaded slippers and sandals. Sometimes the designs appear abstract and then we have to go to YouTube to watch how its being produced. She also loves producing necklaces, bangles and anklets especially on our usual lockdown days which are Mondays and during holidays. I wanted to be sure she is safe whenever she is online. Yesterday, l had a session online with Therese and Ishiato her friend on safety tips in using technology. I was amazed at how much Therese was versed with using technology to play games and search for her designs. She also told me it helps her a lot when she has challenges in doing her school assignments and am busy with other things. Am so proud of little Therese who understands that her mum needs to work extremely hard to care for them. In all I was cautious about using age appropriate content and context for them.

In as much as I am focusing on working with girls and women with disabilities so they could get the most using technology, I am passionate about starting an initiative with young girls around my neighborhood on using technology . Most of these girls are friendly to my daughter and always come around to visit and play with her during holidays and on lock down days. She is already impacting some of them with skills on beaded sandals, slippers and necklaces. It will also be a great opportunity and learning process for these girls who are mostly internally displaced (IDP) and come from a very poor background where knowledge on technology is a far fetched dream.

This initiative will give most of them who will be actually using a computer for the first time an opportunity to read and see what girls of their age are doing around the World. I am also very positive that at some point it will change their perception on some of the attitudes and harmful cultures they see as \"normal\". And for the older ones who might want to learn a trade on beaded slippers or what ever vocational skills they are acquiring they will be able to gain visibility online

More appreciation for the featured changemaker program at World Pulse that has served as an eye opener on the importance of working on more initiatives to get all girls and women acquire basic skills on the use of technology. I recommend more trainings on technology. World Pulse YOU ROCK!!!!!.
