My love for web2.0

Recently, I discovered that Web 2.0 was more than my face-book account, twitter and online chatting, these social networks, which I had come to love because of the scoop news and its connective. It became more exciting on February 2013, when I met a new friend Abisola. She showcase more knowledge than the average girl. She introduced Global pulse as the forum to share my ideas and read other women stories . Right that minute I knew I could use my web 2.0 to access more information on and become a part of the agent of change.
So far, I can boldly affirm the roles of web2.0 in my community.Digital media and web2.0 has allowed us to connect to the other countries of the world and it has transform lives and cultures across countries and continents. For instance, most critics of gender equality in Africa refer to it as a whiteman /European idea to westernize the African woman. Through the help of web2.0 abnormalities in different culture of the world have been exposed. No history class have mentioned the iron breast tradition or the acid violence in Bangladesh.
The impact of Digital media and web2.0 cannot be overemphasized. Web2.0 has been a useful tool of mobilization of groups and rebels. Groups gathered as a result of news and information read or seen on the web. Taking a case study of the January 2012, oil subsidy strike in Nigeria, facebok, twitter and chat rooms were used to decry and gather people to rally against the government action. For the first time, in the country, a massive street protest were held and conducted by the public, women like Funmi Iyanda,women organisation led protests and demonstrations.
Followimg the lead of the Maman Shujaa initiative of Neema Namadamu and the Global Media Monitoring project, I will use the web 2.0 to advocate women’s political participation and gender based violence. Politics in my country is one of the areas with high rate of marginalization against women. For example, in the 2007 presidential election, the only female aspirant was voted out in the party primaries, she secured only four votes and openly accused women of betrayal. Therefore, my first advocacy will be promotion of love and unity among women, educating the people of the power behind supporting a female politician and help destroy the myth that women are to stay outside politics.
On Gender-based violence and equality, the web 2.0 will be an effective tool to decry violence by narrating stories of victims, videos and documentary of rural women with exceptional stories, will be shared on the blog.Above all, web 2.0 will be used as a forum to educate the girl-child.
