My Blood,My Pride

African parents will talk about everything but sex education..like it or not,it's highly neglected that is why young girls make the mistakes they make. There's a saying that "ignorance is a disease" that is why it's very important to educate the younger generation about sex and what comes with being a young woman as a girl.Growing up, nobody thought me about menstruation and how to handle it,so here is my period story...

it was a beautiful day in high school, all dressed and was seated in the classroom..I started feeling uneasy, lower back pains and I thought to myself"it's a bad day already"..I became Moody and cranky ND would snare at anyone that touches me..I later felt very uncomfortable ND decided to go to the restroom,lo ND behold I was all wet, panties coated in blood and that got me confused,God knows I wept for almost thirty minutes. I quietly went to ask for permission to go to the hostel,I had no menstrual towels so I went to a senior frnd to ask for help..I had no courage to tell anyone it was my first time so I had to figure everything my own self.looking at the shape of the pad I knew how it would be placed on my panties, had my bath ND went back to the classroom,I was so uncomfortable the whole of school hours,I lost concentration because I kept going to the restroom to check, mine came with a heavy flow so it was scary,I didn't want to stain again because it's the last wear I was having..I then went to my guardian to call my mum and informed her..

in conclusion, the society has made it a thing of shame for girls menstruating, the myth that comes with it embeds low self esteem.therefore,we have a mandate to sensitize the younger generation about menstrual hygiene, help them improve their self esteem and to know that it's a thing of pride to be a woman.menstrual hygiene day is before us,we all should make it count.Be a voice to girls out there, reach out in the little way you can.make sure you impact to make a difference.this might come as a form of outreach, sensitization,publicity..save a girl you save a generation 🥰..
