Mother-the Spider Mother

Mother's day remind me the great mother of Bengal. She is none but our beloved Rokeya Begam. Rokeya is fondly called Spider Mother. The mother represented and still represents asylum for millions helpless, oppressed & repressive women. Mother stood against all odds, challenged orthodox people and led Muslim Women to empowerment.
She was born in a conservative, affluent family. She was denied education in schools. She was barred in reading Bengali as well as English. However ,she manged to learn both the languages by her own in a hidden manner. She became prolific writer. I her later life she wrote many drawing attention of the society. Her English novel; Sultana's dream is a slap to the male dominated society. She opened school for Muslim girls. She realized Education can change the mindset of muslim women. She organized Anjuman-e-khawatin-e-Islam- a Muslim women's association. She correctly diagnosed in those days that scientific thinking and education will give women self-realization and translate women's potential. I could recall her famous speech\" We are half of the society and if we are left behind, how can the society progress? If a person's one leg is tired, how far can he go? The interests of men and women are the sme,the goal of life is the same for both\".

She daunted to speak \" Although Islam has successfully prevented the physical killing of baby girls, yet Muslims have been glibly and frantically wrecking the mind, intellects and judgement of their daughters till the present day. Many consider it a mark of honor to keep their daughters ignorent and deprive them of knowledge and understanding of the world by coping them up within the four walls of the house\".

Mother Rokeya is the inspiration to the Muslim world. I regard her today.
