Molestation of women on public transport

Hi,

Women often face molestation on public transport, especially here in India. I will tell my experience through this post. I call also call it as 'My Story'. Read further to know why.

I used to travel in public transport to reach my office. I stay in Navi Mumbai. First I used to take a train and then a bus to reach my office. I have shifted near my office some time back. Anyways, coming to my story, I was returning from my office in the evening to my home. The bus was crowded as usual. The place where I work is not fully developed. So there is construction work going on in full swing. Many labourers too travel by public transport to reach their working areas. There was no place to sit in the bus. Here, in buses u have to go all the way to the front to deboard the bus. People board the bus through the rear door. I boarded the bus with my earphones on as I usually do. I tend to forget all my problems after I put on my earphones, as u would agree too . A women came from behind and stood just in front of me. A guy came from behind in the pretext of getting down the bus and stood behind her. I could feel something amiss. I just took a look and saw that guy trying to push his body on hers. I could see the woman being uncomfortable by his actions but she chose to stay quiet as do other women in such situations. I just told that guy slowly,\" O bhai thoda peeche ho jaa yaar\" in Hindi. Meaning back down bro. My eyes are big too. So I don't feel the need to shout at anybody. He just looked at me and stepped aside. Nobody in the bus knew what I said to him, not even that woman. Our destination arrived. I got down the bus, so did that woman and we went our separate ways.

I called it ,'My Story' because it was the first time I decided to act against such perverts. I had previously seen such incidents and turned a blind eye to them. But that day onwards, I have never been silent on such issues and always spoke out against such people.

A women's life is a difficult one, especially here in India. Right from her birth, she is told that she should behave nicely, should follow so called Sanskars meaning customs and traditions, should stay in her limits.

Through my story, I just want to tell them that they are not alone in this fight. We are there with you guyz. Speak up against such perverts. Dream big and fulfill them.

Love and love always,

Bhavneet
