Module 5. Women's leadership in the community

Society and family will always dictate certain professions to men and others to women. They say men understand the lifestyle of working in a profession while women toil at menial jobs. Men don't even consider the face that both genders can make a choice as to which type of work they choose. They don't think that there are work ethics involved in every job. For instance, salma lives in a village with her husband and their three children, two boys and a girl. All three were attending the village school, but the husband did not want their daughter to study further. So their daughter dropped out of school. Salma was very upset and tried convincing the husband to send the child back to school but would not hear of this. He believes that educating a girl child is waste of time and money. Besides, it might spoil her.

Salma was very disappointed. She wanted her daughter to be educated. Salma was attending workshops and listening to talks on gender based violence and the importance of educating a girl child in the village, so she took up herself to talk to the other women in the community, not living out the school teachers in their discussions. The women group themselves and went to each house hold and convince the men that girl must go to school. Then the men had to agree and started sending their girls to school. Now since they understand those values and start that work, its importance to comprehend the concept of money management.
