Module 2 Initiative Update

Going through module 2 lessons, i can say all were of great importance but there is a particular one that inspired me. Lesson 2 on Building a community by Kirti Jayakumar.

In order to build and nurture a community, you establish stakeholding and anyone who joins your cause sees value in doing so. To this effect, Organization for Women's Empowerment and Development, OWED, established stakeholders in Kumbo, our area of responsibility with Mr. Molo Julius heading the group. We nurtured their engagement and called them our focal points for Sexual and reproductive health and rights. They are four in number and one is a journalist with the community radio station. From her presentation, i discovered it alone. Below is what we did as a group to keep my initiative moving.

Over 50 adolescent girls have been educated on Menstrual Hygiene Management by OWED’s focal persons on ground, Ndzerem Sheila and Bongben Mildred. The sensitization was done in Kumbo, capital town of Bui Division in the North West region.

The sensitization brought together adolescent girls from different backgrounds at the St. Peter’s Comprehensive College Annex Meluf Campus.

This was aimed at teaching the girls what menstruation is all about, how to take care of themselves when menstruating. At the close of the day sanitary pads, and pants were distributed to help these girls take care of themselves during the process of menstruation.

The success of the sensitization campaign was thanks to the efforts and hospitality of the Vice Principal of St. Peter’s Comprehensive College Annex Meluf Campus, Mr Molo Julius, who welcomed the initiative and gave us all the necessary support.
