Media Subgroup Call minutes 5.10.10

AC Report Back

Women's groups
  are not all willing to work together - May be counterproductive to try to get them to work together
o Prefer a space where everyone of them can have their shingle up
o Prefer working together in a collective project in which they might participate as members of Poto in which they might document selected issues such as GBV
 Curious about grants they may be missing out on
 Don't have means to document their own projects
 Need help in documenting their project
o having some members trained in audio and video
o can't be one off training - they will need follow-up support
 Don't always necessarily want citizen media trg although some do
 Love that
o we might give them visibility
o receiving a newsletter - to have available at their headquarters to share in weekly mtgs
o overall communications network that would involve cell phones
 like idea of using cell phones for alerts
 LigPouvwaFanm (LPF)
o 60 members
o from middle class to very grassroots
o want more of a public voice
o already work with AFREJ (journalist group)  who make interviews of LPF members - but have not trained them to become correspondents
o Want to know if we could train AFREJ in new tools so they can then train women in group who want it
o Work with SEKOSIDA - Aids group
 they do aids comm work with LPF
 they produce radio and some video
 work on informational campaigns - example forthcoming World Cup sms campaign: \"remember to stay safe\" through digicel collaboration
 ACTION POINT: Have a conf call with SekoSida to add our PSA to their World Cup sms campaign
 SOFA
  number one need would be for media
 like the enewsletter idea and would like some space in it
 want audio-visual training for their own project
 interested in alert system like ushahidi model to be informed of crises in camp
 => want combo of media platform, audiovisual training and text messaging
 Lambi Fund
o Not a women's group but nurture women involved in mixed groups
o Can do regional and local forums
o also need help with media

Groups' suggestions for newsletter
 groups liked the idea
 Asked that it carry their contact info
 feature best practices that come from haitian experiences and initiatives
 feature best practices from other countries that they can learn from
 don't just want local news - want to learn from others

HaitiRewired/cybercafé
 women's groups like the idea of cybercafé
 digicel will help on training and equipment for small scale cybercafés
o in exchange for subscription
o give connection, server, maintenance

WORLDPULSE
 can create a mini resource exchange for haiti:( Haiti I want and I need)

White Ribbon - Haitian Mother's day campaign
 haitian mother's day idea proposed by Nancy Dorsinville
 should get monetized
 a dollar for a ribbon
 think strategically about things we could do as co-sponsors so that it gets into the US - ask folks to wear white ribbon and send/text a dollar and we could make a graph
 ACTION POINT: one person in Poto should follow up and be the point person to liaise with Nancy on this initiative

Data management/Feeds
 ACTION POINT: talk to julie about subscriptions to our feeds
 create curated feed
 aggregate for topics of  PDNA  to create topical feeds that will make us even more of an information hub
