Madagascar: Alert on HIV/ AIDS Transmission

Transmission of HIV / AIDS is increasing alarmingly in Madagascar. Poverty and socio-political crisis are the main causes. There are three or four new cases per month at the Municipal Office of Health or the BMH located in Isotry. \"Three or four cases per month are recorded here on the 400 people screened. This is a great threat to our society because if we made a comparison with 2005, we detected only one case by three months of the 700 screened. \"Explained Dr Hervé Rabeson, chief knew the health service near the BMH.
Since the suspension of all projects on the fight against AIDS because of the sanction imposed against the Malagasy leaders since 2009, the number of carriers of the virus has increased significantly. There is no more true of structures ensuring the screenings. \"Right now, we have no means to collect reliable statistics on HIV carriers and AIDS. However, what we found, there is an increase of patients, \"we expressed Rasoloarimanana Dr. Andry, an NGO in official dealing with carriers and AIDS patients.
Also according to the two doctors, there were over 600 people living with HIV / AIDS at last count, these are new carriers. As for NGOs, which has a center specifically for the detection and treatment of patients; If recognized 8 out of 2500 have HIV in their blood last year.
The Malagasy are not motivated to do so for free screening. There is a very small number to the testing centers and hospitals. The reason: there is more awareness for lack of budget for the National Council of the fight against AIDS.
As for the drug, Madagascar does not have much stock. \"We have stocks for 300 people until 2012. Right now, only 250 patients taking drugs \", we confirmed a doctor.
What is very worrisome, AIDS doesn’t concern only people of the capital. While there are not enough places of sceened or treatment in very remote areas of Madagascar. Our country still needs the support of donors like the World Bank, which was our main partner in the fight against HIV Sid. Unfortunately, all kinds of financial aid from the outside are still suspended.
