M5-Empowering of Women and Teen Mums

In the journey of trying to get things to work when running the women and Teen Mums, you try to make everything work to put a smile on those faces as they make you forget all the pains and hardships you go through to look for all the resources and funds to make them smile because of the differences made in their lives as the children are able to go to school, they are about to generate some small income to keep them going.

As the numbers of women who seek my help increased, I started looking beyond myself for funds and started sharing with friends and family but most of them look at you as a day dreamer. I remember a family member said this to me, “how can you empower those women yet you can’t even help yourself? You don’t even have a job and yet you are using the little money you are getting from your hustle to help other women?” I was really disorganized and discouraged and first gave up for sometimes but my heart would not allow me to sleep as I kept thinking about the women and teen mums in my community.

I then went online and started searching for how to raise funds for a cause and I found GoFundMe and read through plus the testimonies which got me really excited and I started to create an account with them but then I was told that my country was not eligible which made me sob halfheartedly with a pillow over my head. I dried my eyes and could not stop thinking about why should Uganda be among the countries which are not eligible.

So, recently, I started searching for foundations that funds women’s organizations in particularly grass root organizations and even the unregistered ones, indeed I found one which I thought would be a great starting point but one of their requirements is that one has to be a member of their community in order to qualify for the 5000 USD and that was how I ended the application and ended the search as most of them wanted one to belong to their community in order to be able to get the funds which is between 5000-10000USD per year and yet also take very few numbers of applicants.

I therefore call upon sisters here to help me in this journey by sharing with me how they go about his in order to have such foundations to support their organizations. You can also share with me the links to those fund raising with me or even share my work with foundations or organizations which can be interested in supporting my work to empower women in my community.
