M5- THE FREEDOM DOOR - SAFE HEAVEN HOME SHELTER

My vision is to create a safe haven (a home/shelter), a non-governmental organization to fight for survivors' rights and support young adult victims-survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through housing, education, advocacy, and a relentless commitment to preventing further Abuse.

I imagined a world where victims could feel safe to report and receive justice, and that's why I am working on my initiative for Justice in Court.

I was looking for an exit door at 18.

I imagined this world because I never felt safe reporting, and it took me 20 years to do that. When I finally did, I never received justice from the law or Court. Instead, my abuser was set free for the repeated Abuse he had caused me for 20 years.

So, I am in the process of creating this safe heaven home shelter and also finding my team. I have already found one person to join my cause, and I am waiting for others to think about it. I am making the impossible possible and encouraging myself to move forward with this fantastic idea that will impact young adults' lives.

The fantastic thing that happened to me was when I was going out and about to find more people to join my team, something incredible happened. I was invited to be a Co-Host at the Ms. Texas Show, a show where I can interview other survivors and give them space to share their stories. This is very good for me because it will allow me to expand my network. Also, raise awareness for Abuse.

Watch my video https://youtu.be/--L5C8Asmzw and if you are a survivor, let me know if you want to participate in this show. I would love to have you.

As far as my initiative, I must first register my non-profit. I have to put forward a lot of work, but I am fearless in doing it. So, we have weekly meetings with my team friend for planning and waiting for others to join us.

Module 5 was a beneficial tool to see about our next step.

So, crowdfunding looks good for me, as also grants and funding.

Sherna's Grant Writing lesson was very enlightening for me and very useful. It helped me explore funding opportunities and how to find funders. But I know I have a long road ahead of me, but I am sure I will get there in the end. It's the journey that counts and not the destination, and this journey all these months in the Changemakers lab was very transformative for me. So I am happy to be among my sisters, encouraging me to move forward.
