A group photo with women of Kuchi Goro Community, a suburb in the FCT, Abuja, Nigeria
I have
always relied on just the few people that I feel comfortable around while
working on this sensitization project, but I soon realized that this campaign
is so important given the enormous attention it has been receiving so far.
There seem
to be a greater awakening of women to involving themselves in Politics and
ultimately influence decision making and making policies that can trigger the
much needed change.
Module 2 has
made me realize that we could actually involve more communities for greater
impact, given the magnitude of what we are out to achieve; awakening women’s
minds to their “power within” and capacity to create change in the status quo.
Women in Kuchi
Goro community have proven to us that both Old, Young and Women Living with
disabilities are hungry for causing a change. Even as we encountered some miscommunication
on the timing of the event in their community, it was still possible to gather
these women who wanted to know more on how they could exercise their voting
rights.
Arming
myself with more knowledge from module 2, I have made a decision to now involve
the women community leaders, in our next outreach, in the planning processes,
as more communities need to be involved for optimum result.
