Women. Humans who are not male. Female humans who cater for other people's needs other than their own. Female humans whose job is to be at the beck and call of males. Or so it seems for it is a patriarchal society, so ingrained it's easy to fall in line and lose yourself.
I say love yourself woman! Put yourself first always.
Stop to think, what about me? Who am I? What do I want? It becomes easier when you put effort to rejuvenate yourself, do something nice for yourself and take a back seat from all the work that needs to be done. I don't let anyone make me do something I don't want to do. I choose my own way of doing things at my own time. With such an attitude you'll be called names, I get called names. Oh you're rude, you're arrogant, you're not cooperative, you're stubborn, you're weird, oh so strange, you're crazy, you're emotional (I really hate this tag line), you're naive, you're too much! If not you're this and that then you're smart but... You have a point but... Always second guessing us!
That's what they called women who could learn herbs and heal people. That's what they called women who secretly learnt to read and realized they were being short changed. That's what they called women who refused to be mistreated. That's what they called women who fought against unfairness and injustice. That's what they call women who know what's good for them and their children. That's what they call women who are sure of themselves. Women who have their head high and are confident. That's what they called women who are old and wise. They called them witches and had them burnt.
We learnt from them, our grandmother's who lacked options whispered in to our mother's ears, 'love yourself, put yourself first. Don't be like me.' And our mothers listened and did things differently and continued whispering in to our ears the same thing, 'love yourself, put yourself first. Be better than me.' Thus a silent revolution was borne, it gave rise to suffragettes and activists. To authors and speakers. It gave us the strength to face life. It gave us a voice. It made us decide what to do and when to do it. It made us get noticed. It made changes to the social fabric.
So today I'm reminding myself and all of you, to not feel guilty for putting yourself first, your dreams and your goals first. Loving ourselves is a much cherished cure.
I love myself, so should you 🥰
