Local impact, global news

Last year, my team and I began the implementation of the second phase of the Spotlight Initiative in Cross River State Nigeria, providing second chance education and vocational skills to marginalized women and girls in communities Obubra and Obanliku targeting especially women and girls who left school because of unintended pregnancy, early marriage, poverty and harmful practices that prevent women from developing their potential. It's amazing to see the impacts we are making in communities getting recognized internationally by Global Spotlight Initiative and the UN. https://www.spotlightinitiative.org/news/skills-training-giving-nigerian-women-and-girls-second-chance-education.

2000 women and girls are receiving basic literacy, GBV education, Family Life Health Education and Life Skills, 50 of them are equally undergoing vocational training in confectionary, hair dressing and makeup artistry. Trainees will be provided with starter kits to start their business at the end of their training this month.

Spotlight Initiative is a global partnership between the EU and UN which aims to eliminate violence against women and girls through cross cutting approaches. My organisation has been an implementing partner with UNESCO since 2019 on the implementation of the education and skills component of the Spotlight Initiative in Nigeria.
