It is never too late to start again… 2022 for a restart….
A notion that I've been thinking about in the year 2021: “You can start again” what if this is true? Where do you start? One can argue that some things are better left in the past.
This topic was refreshed for me when I received a small booklet from my work “Leger des Heils' with a compilation of real time true stories: Het is niet te laat om opnieuw te beginnen, Adveniat 2021. I asked a client yesterday how is it at your age to start again? A elderly homeless man, who lost everything and is disconnected from his loved ones. He went through the system and is about to receive the key to his apartment. “I am happy that I got another chance to start afresh”, he answered. Is this maybe one of the ingredients, gratitude?
What happened to the dreams that never worked out? The unanswered questions and regrets?
Let's look at a few scenarios:
- having one thousand emails in your inbox.
- your personal administration.
- your dreams and ambitions.
- the relationships you never really had time for.
- time with your kids and spouse.
- the studies you wanted to do.
- the languages you wanted to learn.
- the substances you only tried out.
- the conversation you never had with your belated loved one.
- the letter or email you really wanted to send.
- the things you wish you never bought.
- the business you wanted to start.
- the job you wanted to apply for.
- the injustice that happened to you.
- your faith in God
- the impact you want to have in your community
- the person that interested you to start a new relationship.
- the places you wanted to visit and experience.
- the choices you made.
- being the best YOU.
The above list is unending depending on where you are in life. There are a lot of regrets and unanswered issues in the list above. So, is starting again really the best approach, knowing that some things might never change? Simon Terry argues that Each restart is not a blank page. “The Corona Pandemic is forcing many people to start over again. Jobs are gone. Businesses are gone. Relationships have broken down. For many there is an ongoing health battle that will require a new start too. If you can recall back to the first time, you will remember you were gripped with fear, uncertainty and confusion. Starting out means new networks, new relationships and new activities. There is a lot to create and understand for those starting for the first time\". A happy restart in 2022 Randall Maarman, 2021.
