Introducing myself and my journal: When They Were Free

About Me:
Hi!
I am highly impressed by the strength and power of the women involved in this organization. When I found this forum and read the other posts, I was encouraged by the stories of resiliency and the creativity which radiates from each individual.

I am a teacher in Chicago, who grew up overseas. I have always had an interest in women's rights organizations and want to be involved in a proactive way. I love to use stories with depth and beauty in my classroom. I see a lot of this in World Pulse and would like to learn more about ways in which I can become more connected to the larger internet community.

My philosophy of education is based on the firm conviction that students of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds should have the greatest possible chance of succeeding in both their academic and personal goals. Among my main objectives is to provide students with the wide range of literacy skills needed for the 21st century. Students need literacy support, in part, to understand the ways in which classroom skills can apply to their own lives. I believe that unless learning is meaningful and involves angible outcomes, it will not motivate students to go beyond the bare minimum required of them.
One aspect of education about which I am particularly passionate is empowering students to construct their own ways of understanding of the material. I love creating a curriculum that integrates the subject matter in a meaningful way. Although the students might need guidance, I want them to have confidence in using the resources at their disposal and finding solutions to problems, such as I see through the stories/article made available at World Pulse.

My Passions:
Reading, Creating curriculum, tutoring, swimming in the ocean, boxing, collecting amazing quotes, spontaneous adventures.

My Challenges:
Finding a career which does not me to use my voice, finding a career in a different country.

My Vision for the Future:
To be involved in a literacy organization and create curriculum in a country of need
