Introducing myself and my journal: Watashi Wa

About Me:
I am a thinking women of 40.I believe that a small thought can actually bring about a process.A process can lead to a change and a change can bring about a revolution.The gift that each individual is born with,that special ability with which he/she becomes distinct is the one that is to be understood and realized.Once realized,it becomes the power to transform,oneself, the family and eventually the society at large.My potential,I believe is my eagerness to know each day about myself and the world at large.It gets reflected in my routine activities and ultimately into my writings,which i think is my way of expression.

I am a documentation consultant in an organization which is a social enterprise and uses communication for development methodologies to foster pro- poor growth in various parts of India.We use culture as tool for development and believes it fosters social inclusion.

My background In Economics and Mass communication helps to understand issues of social relevance and my upbringing in a middle class Bengali (Indian) society makes me culturally aware.My range of study includes relevance of corporal punishment in rural schools of India to empowerment of tribal women painters belonging to a remote district of eastern India.It also ranges from analysing the social effects (in a global perspective) of a folk artists' entry into the European professional performing circuit as also the impact of child marriage on underage girls in West Bengal (India).The interesting array of work encompasses within its ambit the very thriving city culture of Kolkata with its myriad social dilemmas... as a perfect backdrop of a 'developing' new millennium.
A couple of years in Japan has had a tremendous influence and my teaching experience in a totally alien socio- cultural set up has given me the courage to face the unknown with resilience.I am a wife and also a mother of a 12 year old and the multiple roles that I play each day,have a distinct identity of their own..that of a woman who thinks and DOES.
