Introducing myself and my journal: Community Weaving

About Me:
I spearheaded a national movement \"Community Weaving America\" to re-engineer a social safetynet to foster a more caring, just and civil society. In the process a method for democratic reformation emerged as people and systems collaborated in an effort to save our children's future. I founded the Family Support Network, International an all volunteer organization that was started by a group of neighbors in 1993. Volunteers developed a web-based technology www.goodneighbors.net to re-weave the social fabric of community by connecting neighbors together to help one another and provide a system of support for the system itself. Community Weaving has been recognized as an exemplary model for poverty reduction, asset-based community building, and wrap-around services. I received my B.A. in Liberal Arts & Transformative Community Building from Antioch University, Seattle. I authored the Community Weaving chapter in The Change Handbook 2nd Edition. I've published articles on transformative community building, community organizing and volunteerism. Communities tap her expertise to develop innovative approaches to build and bridge social capital. I'm the recipient of the distinguished Jefferson Award (the mini-Nobel Prize for public service). I've been awarded the Excellence in Leadership Award and the Giraffe Award, for sticking my neck out. Most recently I was awarded the Daily Points of Light award for volunteerism. I believe the more resources we are among ourselves the more valuable a resource we become to our families, our communities and our world.
