About Me:
I was born in Hunza on 3rd February 1989 to a soldier in Pakistan Army, Bayo Khan. I spent protected childhood in the company of my brothers and sisters in the village Murtaza abad Hunza. I was sheltered by loved and revered parents, led by authority; of my father, brought up with a regard for truth and loyalty, for achievement and reliability. The educational journey in my life, from a small village school to the university in Islamabad has been a life transforming experience for me. This journey has been both in physical and intellectual sense of the word. I moved to Gilgit which is the nearest town where I completed my college education and then came to Islamabad for my university education. I often reflect analytically on this journey to determine my future course of action. From my personal experience as well as study of the society of the Gilgit-Baltistan I think I have gained a relatively deeper insight into the issues of women of the Gilgit Baltistan society. For the future my desire is to assist young girls of this tribal area to move on the path of educational and social development so that they, through higher education, attain empowerment and emancipation in life. This needs social, economic and psychological support to young girls. Their families need to be counselled to allow their girls actualise their potential through education. To achieve this objective I would like to either work in an effective social organisation in a policy making position or develop my own NGO. Another important area that needs development in the Gilgit Baltistan society is to undertake social research to correctly identify causes of social issues which hamper women’s emancipation particularly issues related to education, early marriage, and negative attitudes towards women’s emancipation.
