Recent considerations in the treatment of mental health, and trauma elevate the experience of NOW. The categorization of PTSD, (post traumatic stress disorder) escalated into CPTSD, (complex trauma stress disorder). The considerations regarding the novel neuro nets created in brain systems by trauma, make it necessary to shift the Disorder to a simple Response. There we now have Complex Post Traumatic Stress Response.
Each new member of a support team does the same intake questionnaire. The bureaucracy of treatment then becomes a barrier. Systemic changes to intake processes are how the support team de-values past details of trauma. The screening of trauma survivors involves both non-conscious, and conscious factors. Trauma support is a changing environment. Historic treatments of mental health (Including Trauma) required clients to repeat their story. Often the abuse and trauma are parsed to multiple providers. Review of client records is one element that will eliminate the paperwork barrier.
Each therapist must gauge the ability of the mental health client by recognizing the facial expressions, movements, eye contact and words. With this, the person supporting the client will then test the functionality of the person they are supporting. The CIMBS (Complex Integrative Multiple Brain Systems) approach uses methods like "putting away distraction", emphasis on safety, and self awareness.
Trauma has been studied for centuries. Consider the Catholic inquisition, military training in MK Ultra projects, or recent brain science in addiction. Specific systemic change will benefit when support structures in an organization use a constellation of beliefs. New concepts like parallel processing, adaptive capacity, and triggers can be absorbed when attachment capacity evaluated.
Why is attachment capacity important?
The mother and her attachment style shapes how the infant responds to getting needs met. This is the first attachment that we as humans on the earth experience. It could be early detachment, such as in the case of adoption. It could look like violence resulting from conditions of war. However the story is constructed, the repeated abandonment is linked strongly with an adult's capacity for attachment. Attachment style is discussed in developmental education.
In a systems approach, the attachment to the therapeutic relationship needs a specific evaluation measurement. Rather than medicating first, asking questions later; a therapist can achieve success by a chronicle of conscious awareness of the self, including the non-conscious behaviors to facilitate more awareness of the capacity for change in the client. As therapists achieve greater success in their own practice, they can begin to better inform a systems level intervention. Often, a support system becomes the barrier when the therapists are lacking in the support they are seeking for their clients.
