The beautiful and sturdy Mt Fako, in Buea, Cameroon. Its beauty and resilience reminds me of my mentee, Brenda.

Many of us grew up with amazing role models who more or less shaped the way we look at life but few of us have had the unique privilege of walking this journey we call life with a mentor holding our hands and guiding us to discover and unearth hidden potentials buried in us, waiting to be tapped.

I count myself blessed to have been mentored by an incredible human and sister You want to know who she is? Well, read through my stories here to discover her 😊.

This blessing is what is today giving me the courage to keep my fears aside and step into the shoes of a mentor. The courage to reach out and share just a bit of the blessing I have received through this beautiful world pulse mentoring program.

The truth is, when the call for mentors went out a few months back, I was unsure whether I wanted to do this despite the desire to pay it forward to another. I was weary, even afraid and I asked myself many questions. How will I hold this session? What if the person I am paired with is the kind that doesn't get my challenges and I end up boring and wasting her time? Will I really be able to carry this task? These are incredible humans who are already doing amazing work. I am still learning and would probably learn more from them. How can I really be their mentor when they are already doing amazing feats?

But then, I remembered what I was told, a mentor is more a friend/sister than a teacher. Someone who is willing and happy to hold your hand, cheer you on and tell you, you can do this. Give you that little push where you feel unsure and in the process, build life long relationships of love and sister hood.  This is is something I know I could do.

And so, I filled the form. I was thrilled to be paired with Brenda. I have read some of her stories and the incredible work she's doing in Uganda for young girls and vulnerable women.

I am constantly inspired by her resilience and each time we have out sessions, I get out richer and thinking. The human heart is a beautiful thing and we must not let our challenges choke on this beauty and this is what my amazing mentee is doing.

Inspite of her own challenges and especially the issue of constant internet woes, I am in awe of her passion and dedication.  She does her best to login and ensure the sessions runs smoothly.

There is so much to say but I know we are just at the beginning of a life time journey of learning, of cheering each other and of sisterhood.

Thank you for calming my fears and helping me see I can confidently fit into the shoes of a mentor, dear Brenda. I appreciate your compassionate and understanding nature and above all, your resilience against the odds is a testament of the incredible human you are and I am blessed to walk this mentoring journey with you.

Keep trudging, dear Brenda. The girls and women in Uganda are blessed to have your amazing self holding their hands and impacting them and the world would be better for it.
