IDEAS AND FEEDBACK MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE

Our Volunteer, Franca sensitizing women at Kaduna South Local government secretariat, Kakuri, kaduna

Following work on sustaining the tempo of ensuring that women and persons with disabilities participate actively in Nigeria’s elections in 2023, I have tried severally to grab the attention of organizations to partner with and secure grants linked to politics, all to no avail

Since my organization, Orah Bayit Foundation is quite new I have so far solely depended on donations from family and friends to execute our programs, and this has put a peg on our reach and impact.

These constrained by limited funds or resources affect the extent to which our program can go, stalling the possibilities of expanding our programmes to touch more lives.

I have also tried severally to seek partnerships with other organizations which have yielded no results. It is quite difficult to get organizations to trust or believe in start-ups since many of them believe there are no track records to fall on.

Again we tried applying for grants on a few occasions that also failed as most of the time we did not meet up to the requirement and we are not well known.

During the cause of this project, we expanded our reach outside Abuja. We had one of our outings in Kaduna South local government area, North West, Nigeria, but even that has not been enough as there are still more women to reach out to.

We tried to apply for grants but perhaps we lacked the understanding and capacity to properly write a convincing proposal that meets international standards, and this has negatively affected our work.

We are gradually building a system but the process is not easy. Therefore module 5 of the changemakers lab could not have come at a better time. it has given me some insight into some of the reasons why our attempt at reaching out to partners and finding grants failed

I am therefore calling everyone reading this to advise accordingly and give us feedback that will help us tackle the problems and find lasting solutions to the challenges we are facing.
