I will keep mine happy hope in a song

Hope will dance with me
Philo Ikonya

What was that you said Hope?
Will you still dance with me;
Hoping as you sing Tumaini?
We can turn and turn and swiftly again,
Make them back, us to admire.
For we know our black is power.

I will keep mine Happy African Hope in a song,
Which I can scatter everywhere in beads,
And in the long necklace of drops of water,
Which every river wears.

I will make my hope into trees,
Which can bring back all waters back to earth:

The water that breaks at childbirth.
The water that opens my eyes in the morning,
The water that runs in a stream,
The city water that I dream,
The water that cleans other water,
The water that comes in my tears,
The water that washes my fears.
The water that baptizes my soul,
The water that greens my trees,
The water that sails down my throat’s canoe.
The water that cleans my pavement,
The water that grows my kale.
And the water that dances with Hope.
The dance called Tumaini.
