story

We are disabled and a force of nature. My name is Mrs jinyemiema. This isn't exactly my story, but I am writing it for hajara (you excelled) for all the girls and boys living with disabilities.
I met hajara on a rainy day in Jos, Plateau State Nigeria. It was raining heavily and the roof of her home was blown away in the rain. I was watching from the 3rd floor of a building nearby when I noticed someone cowering in the building that had it's roof blown away. I was wondering why the person didn't leave the building and take shelter from the rain as it was a hail storm. Then I realized that the person couldn't move. I went outside and raised an alarm on getting there we realized that it was a young girl and she was chained to the window.. on breaking the chain, we found out that she had multiple disabilities. She was blind and physically challenged. That was the beginning of our journey. Hajara learnt to code, she even learnt various vocational skills. Even when she was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm, it didn't stop her. She was able to work and earn and buy a house for her parents who treated her worse than an animal. she setup an education fund for her siblings. Before she died she always said she is a TITAN a force of nature. It is in her memory that Kode-E was born. A tech hub where we train children and children living with disabilities. A safe space for children living with disabilities to become TITANS and excel. She did more than survive, she excelled.
