Just before the announcement of the closure of schools in Tanzania. I had one very interesting lesson where I engaged the girls in the discussion on a safe space. They learnt that there was a safe place in the internet an online platform where they could share their stories freely about their problems and represent other girls and women from their communities and find resources for their work. These again, were girls above 18 years and in a Vocational Training College, one of the many groups from the Intuition that I started training way back in 2015. They now know they can promote their finished materials and online use of social media handles such as facebook, instagram
Today, they know that apart from the usual training conducted one –on-one in their classrooms they can also use the internet to speak and help others in their community especially those faced with child forced marriages and other related social injustices in their communities. They can use their phones to call for help
Tanzania like all other countries of the world is affected by the corona virus pandemic. Primary schools were then closed down. A few days later evening after the lesson, the school management informed the students of the government directive on the closure of all Colleges/ Higher learning institutions in the country due to some corona virus cases that had been reported. That is when I thought of how important the lesson was. They were also eighteen and above and if they could access phones they would try out to join the platform, our great World Pulse community. A peaceful and safe place where you are listened to, respected, share your stories and those of others from your community or anywhere in the world; A community so loving and ready to encourage anyone.
Today, I continue using technology and plan to start a virtual classroom to train more girls on self care using modern technology to teach my lessons
