Living in your country/community makes you proud especially when those in need/vulnerable, survivors of any kind of GBV are recognized and are being cared for.
My country is structured with very beautiful culture, beautiful site seeing, good food i.e. organic food produce etc.
In the early 80's life was average and schools were created for the needy and the vulnerable such as the government schools, mission school etc where free education and books where given to the pupils/students. For the pregnant women, they were given milk and some food like pap etc. Today all these has become pass history because the government doesn't care any longer.
Linking women and girls for Antenatal care was my priority but looking at it, it seems it not enough because the rate of pregnant women is alarming, so I deemed it was necessary to initiate family planning in other to reduce birth rate so that it can help this women to think positively and focus on their lives and their ways of living.
Another reason for initiating family planning is to reduce the rate of pregnancy, infant mortality and to promote good standard of living.
Secondly concentrating only on linking them for Antenatal care for me seems I was losing it all and encouraging pregnancy. As the days go by the rate of rape cases increases and sexual harassment/ assault is talk of the day. Looking at the rate of unwanted pregnancy and the number of delivery per month is more than 80% talkless of those going for abortion and losing their lives and that of the babies. I saw myself fighting a lost battle by encouraging pregnancy for young girls and women because the of pregnancy was alarming about 40%daily. So I decided to initiate family planning methods to these women which I believe will help the most by reducing high birth rate, infant mortality rates and improve standard of living.
Thinking of the government for assistance is the last option because she doesn't care of what's happening. With the socio political crisis in Cameroon, women have been displaced from rural areas to urban areas for safety but yet the rate of GBV as rape and sexual harassment/assault is concerned, it's like a pandemic.
This plays into my passion for GBV and harassment prevention and building organizations that are safe inclusive and respectful where all women can thrive. Making a change with out resistance, I most stand for the voice of the voiceless and for the truth, power and won't give up nor shut down. Fighting back when I found myself in rape and sexual harassment as a grown up, I said to myself NO don't do that. Rather I continue to think on how to operate on other levels within my control, power and positivity in life.
If this opportunity and step that I have taken should work well by next year then I'll be very grateful.
