Homabay county has a population of 1101901million,comprising of males 48% and female 52%, HIV prevalence in Homabay county is nearly 4.5times higher than the national prevalence at 26%.The county contributed 15.1% and 14% of the total new HIV infection in Kenya among children and adults respectively. Gender inequality, difficulties in accessing services and poverty are fuelling high rates of teenage pregnancies and HIV in Homa Bay.According to the survey conducted by the Kenyan government in collaboration with non-governmental institutions it shows that youth aged between 15yrs to 24yrs contribute to 13%of the total HIV infection amongst age 15 to 49yr olds in the adolescent girls are identified as particularly vulnerable as they often have little say in relationships and the use of condoms, face pressure from peers or wider society to get pregnant or marry early or circumstances force them into transactional sex.According to research many girls lacked access to, or awareness of, relevant HIV, sexual and reproductive health sex.The study finds out that adolescent girls are at risk of sexual violence increasing their risk of HIV and unintended pregnancy. It was reported that cases of defilement of under age girls have increased in Homabay particularly around school holidays with many cases going unreported this is so due to fears of stigma unprejudiced or fear of retaliation from the wider community. All these leads to school dropout, early marriages, depression or poor health, becoming economically dependent on their and more at risk of violence and abuse.
Helping hands kenya is set to run a programme christened *Ladder of hope* targeting vulnerable women, teenagers and youth in Homabay county who are directly or indirectly exposed to poverty level.
The program is meant to engage the community through Building a school in 5acres land which will also be a resource and rescue center, plus this will also create employment to the community, more so women and youth.FOR ANY SUPPORT AND DONATION KINDLY
