When i was young, i us to see my parents and grand parents eating from leaves, and drinking from a Calabash. There drank from streams and springs. The water was so cool, fresh and had no taste. The food was so tasty and yummy. The vegetables tasted fresh and very nutritive and there lived to 80years and 90years old. Infact , my grand father was born in 1923 and died in 2012. It was a village setting, but everything looked so natural and So beautiful. The sun was not too hot and the rains came at the time it was suppose to come. The crops planted deed so well and the food yields were great.
Suddenly, the second page of the world i now leave in opened and a different story is what i am witnessing and recounting now. The heat waves are now too much. I feal so hot as though flames of fire have been🔥 erected in my surrounding. What could this be? I later answered my self and said " this are heat Waves of climate change". The food i now eat are artificial, grown from fertilizers which are not eco- friendly. I now eat from plastics and drink from plastics. The rivers are flooded with plastic bottles, and there is flood every where. The gutters have been littered with plastic bottles and other non biodegradable waste like glasses and cans. The Rivers in my area are now colourful and unfit to drink. The gutters smell and flies flying on the left overs of the debris. What a pitty!
looking at this situation, i feel like our life span here on earth has been reduced. Then i asked my self again! " Who is the cause of all this"? I had to check my self, neighbors and others and realised that ,this situation i now see today is caused by you and i. Yes you and i. The little things we throw around, thinking its just trash has now come back to us. climate change is not felt in days or weeks but is felt in years to come. Our actions of yesterday is the cause of our troubles today. If we continue with the same practices of managing waste, we should be rest assured that our children yet unborn will even face worst things than we do.
today, i am raising my voice to say #Stopplasticwastepollution, and have created an organization called HAND IN HAND Cameroon where the population can be trained through online trainings and in-person seminar, on how to manage waste and beat plastic pollution. I have organizes several trainings that have trained and sensitized over 800 women, men and girls in 12 different communities in my country. I believe that in Africa, the main people cooking are women and more women should be trained on waste management and recycling. I will also be organizing an online training program on how to beat plastic pollution and create climate businesses from plastics. This climate businesses will help raise income for household support and at the same time reduce plastics from the environment. So far, my team and i have been able to reduce just 5tonnes of plastics from the environment, which we reuse and recycle the plastic to facinators, caps and hand bags. This items are mostly to train women in community training programs to be able to start climate businesses that can be use for livelihood support. We also used some of the plastics to create test samples for floor pavements which are used to beautify the compound. We also used some of the plastics to make lumber bars for fencing and also to make flower jars to decorate the house. The test samples have been done and we are hoping to get financial assistance in starting a plastic recycling space.
The future of the next generation is in our hands. Our actions towards the environment will either affect our environment positively or negatively. I believe our children or next generation should be our motivation. That is, what quality of air there will breath, what quality of food there will eat and what quality of drinking water there will drink. I believe the fight to combat climate change is not a one man's affair. it takes a collective effort to be able to eradicate plastic and reduce pollution, floods and the green house effect.
To this end i say, #letsbeatplasticpollutiontogether.
