To commemorate the 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence this year, Orah Bayit foundation decided to unite with people from different sectors in Nigeria to have a holistic engagement on bringing a lasting solution to the menace.
The UN had earlier called on civil society, women’s organizations, young people, the private sector, media, and the UN system to join forces to address the global pandemic of violence against women and girls.
Putting the 2022 theme, with the theme “Unite! Activism to end violence against Women, in action, we had interviews, discussions, and dramatization on ways to find lasting solutions to GBV. Gender-based violence is known to have increased since the Covid -19 Pandemic, bringing with it a wave of more terrible experiences reported across the country
We involved people from media organizations, religious bodies, women with experiences from different sectors, school children, and girls.
This was to help us encourage more people from all spheres of life to speak up, discourage, stop stigmatizing and report cases of violence against women and girls. It was also an avenue to discourse on how gender-based violence can be stopped.
Violence against women is not inevitable, it is preventable, and very important that everyone is involved to bring about an end to the menace. Let us all keep uniting to stop this pandemic.
