Farewell A C College July 1952

Destiny has spoken , my future decided upon , the excitement died down , decisions to be taken , tasks to be undertaken and so in those waning days of July 1952, several times I made a beeline to Andhra Christian College Lutheran to bid farewell , facilitate my departure from B Sc to M B B S , a little sad , a bit fear of the unknown . First I met my class mates and told them of my impending departure , some were sorry to see me gone now one of them A Scientist in Oceanography , each one to his own pasture . Next I paid obeisance to my teachers in departments of Zoology , Botany , Chemistry , and English and with reverence , about my admission into Medical College I made them known and obtained their blessings . Then I met T J Paulus gaaru Ph D ( English ) , Principal of A C College and handed over a copy of my Medical College admission letter and a letter from my father requesting for issue of necessary certificates of departure - Transfer Certificate , Conduct Certificate , No Due Certificate and he looked sternly at me initialed the document and bid me to go and see the office manager , which I did forthwith and having vetted several palms as was and still is common , I obtained all the necessary documents thereby finalizing my departure from A C College with all ties therein broken . As I was leaving the portals of that well known college , I turned back , took a last look at the edifice and stepped out on to the main road of Guntur Town and ready to present myself at the gate of Guntur Medical College ; but some preliminary steps need to be taken such as , for the first time in my life Shoes to be purchased , I can no longer be bare-footed can I , a full length white trousers ( pants ) , half hands white shirt , a brief and a vest , proposals were put by me before my mother who forwarded them to my stern father for his approval and me waiting with apprehension ; all this may come as a surprise to all of you but let it be known that I was never dare enough to stand before my father leave alone even to address him as ' naanna gaarandi ' , the channel of approach is always through my mother who was also in awe of him and approached him with trepidation . Be that so however I knew he is a kind-hearted parent and sanctioned all that was requested of him except a wrist watch which I was keen on but vetoed without further ado ( I was going to have my first wrist watch A Rolex in 1958 , that is another story it can wait ). Lo and Behold I am now ready , eager , a little apprehensive , abundant joy to present myself along with my father at The Office Of The Principal , Guntur Medical College on August Ten , 1952 as required and friends and well wishers would you please also come to lend me moral support as you all know that I am taking first step , a giant step for me , a step of no return back , a line to be stepped over , crossing Rubicon - see you soon !!!!
