Every Child is important

In Africa and especially Cameroon where l come from the girl child is still highly unrecognised. Most parents  especially fathers see girl children not as their children but as another man's property. So they don't invest in their girl children.

I am a victim of this kind of discrimination and a lot more from my very own father. My father has 2 children out of marriage which l am one and the other is a boy.

He recognises the two of us very well as his children by giving us his surname. He sponsored us both until we had our university degree and since we both could not find a job he provided money for my half brother to set up a business, gave him a plot of land to build on. He told me he can't give me money for business or land to build a house because some day l will get married and feed another man and his children with his money.And it is a taboo for our tradition. 

  I still wonder if it is a crime that l am a girl. I ask the question! What if l don't get married? What if l don't find a job to do? I am glad l am in this platform to speak out. A child is a child no matter the sex. My girl children must not go through what l went through. I must speak out
