EVENT* What Not to Wear: Cotton and Child Slavery

EVENT* What Not to Wear: Cotton and Child Slavery
Tuesday 9 June 2009, 7pm
Amnesty International UK, The Human Rights Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn Yard, London EC2A 3EA

Please join us for this panel debate to hear speakers from Anti-Slavery International and the Environmental Justice Foundation, alongside representatives from the International Textile, Garment & Leather Workers' Federation and a UK retailer (to be confirmed) discuss the issue of forced child labour in Uzbekistan's cotton industry and what can be done to eliminate it.

Considering the action taken by some retailers to ban Uzbek cotton from their products, why do other retailers continue to use it? How can we as consumers ensure that the products we buy are free from slave labour and that we are not inadvertently contributing to the problem? A short video will also be screened and the audience will have the opportunity to put their questions to the panel.
