ElectHer launches Agenda 35

Statistics of female candidates in the forthcoming 2023 elections

Irrespective of all efforts to promote the contribution of women in the domain of politics and decision making, Nigerian women have continued to record low representation at all tiers and levels of governance despite being almost half of the population and the greatest number of voters.

Nigeria currently ranks 181 out of 193 countries on the #Gender #Equality Index and countries with low #women representation in #governance which translates to the low representation of women in governance and #thisisme politics, the inadequate legal framework, and limited capacity to support women’s empowerment and equality efforts.

ElectHer a women’s political advancement joint initiative by The Social Change Network Africa and Women in Leadership Network is dedicated to addressing this anomaly by supporting #outstanding #visionary female #political candidates in the campaign process to get elected into office.

I AM one of these women selected by ElectHer for the forthcoming 2023 elections in a project tagged 'Agenda35' in a grand event in Lagos. with the aim of mobilizing social, human, and financial resources for forward-thinking Nigerian women across political parties to run for office and win elections in 2023.

This initiative came at a critical time and is long overdue because according to UNWomen statistics, the ratio of women contesting in the 2023 elections is the lowest recorded in the history of Nigerian elections since 1999. This now presents us with the urgent need to ensure that those contesting get all the necessary backing and support they need to win at the polls.

The time is NOW for #nigerians especially #women to rise, and not just demand #affirmative action but #work and #walk towards enshrining it by ensuring more women get into #leadership spaces.

The #time is #NOW to #support her and #ElectHer
