Early Teen Marriages in Malawi

In Malawi, there is a significant percentage of young girls that drop out of school and get marriedin their teen years. Usually some are not forced into marriage but some girls are not inspired to progress with their education. I have witnessed a couple of these situations several times when I was working in a certain rural area and the project was targeting adolescent girls.

In the course of the project, some girls failed to complete the project as they got married and ended up moving out of the area. The government and other Non Governmental organisations are trying to stop this behaviour however as a country we have a long way to go. Girls need mentors and motivators to inspire them to still stay in school and complete their education.
