THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PRIZE

Africa has produced some of the world's most influential writers, thinkers and storytellers.

Yet many African authors continue to struggle for international visibility.

The Distinguished Africans Magazine Prize seeks to help change that.

It is not merely an award for a book.

It is a celebration of African voices.

It is a celebration of African imagination.

It is a celebration of African history and identity.

And it is a statement that African writers deserve to be recognized, read and celebrated on the global stage.

WHY DISTINGUISHED AFRICANS MAGAZINE?

Distinguished Africans Magazine was created to spotlight Africans who are making significant contributions in different fields and to tell stories that celebrate African excellence.

The Prize extends that mission into literature.

Through the Prize, Distinguished Africans Magazine will create another important platform for discovering and celebrating African talent.

The magazine's literary award will connect journalism, publishing, culture and literature while giving outstanding books the attention they deserve.

THE PRIZE AS A LEGACY

The long-term ambition is for the Distinguished Africans Magazine Prize for the Best African Book to become an annual literary institution associated with excellence in African writing.

Each year's winners and shortlisted authors will become part of the Prize's literary history.

Over time, the Prize can build an archive of exceptional African books and authors, creating a record of contemporary African literature for future generations.

A PLATFORM FOR EMERGING WRITERS

The Prize will not only celebrate established literary names.

It will also provide an opportunity for emerging African writers to gain recognition.

A major objective is to ensure that talented writers who may not yet have international visibility have an opportunity to be discovered.

The Prize therefore seeks to become both a celebration of established excellence and a platform for the next generation of African literary voices.

THE AFRICAN BOOK OF THE YEAR

The ultimate honour is the selection of one outstanding work as the:

DISTINGUISHED AFRICANS MAGAZINE BEST AFRICAN BOOK OF THE YEAR
