Disease of the Mind

Everyone is running from their home. Thousands in their homeland, without a home. Twenty years old. Twenty years of pure darkness. Darkness in people’s words. Darkness in the way they talk. Darkness in their fearful and accusing smiles. There is no trust in this darkness. There is only the disease; that incurable disease. Well, maybe it can be cured but no one is willing to take the risk. It’s a disease of the mind. It can’t be escaped. It can’t be ignored. It’s a disease of ideology. A disease of the mind. It was not supposed to be infectious. It was considered a gift. It was a form of social order. It was passed down by our forefathers. But it has become a curse. This incurable disease has manifested itself into an evil. An evil that possesses every man, woman and child. It feeds of vanity and pride. This evil has caused the darkness.

Some speak of a better day. They speak fondly of a past which I am unable to imagine. A past I wish I could dwell in. But the evil has succeeded. Darkness has engulfed even the hearts of the pure and innocent. Children are infected and possessed by the relentless evil that refuses to subside. Children of the darkness. Children of this evil who know only this evil. It spreads through oral tales. It brainwashes children into believing that one man is better than another. That one family deserves more glory and power than another.

It’s an uncompromising evil. It feeds on the darkness deep within. Few people thrive with this evil. Few enjoy the spread of this evil. The few that thrive in this evil, have found a way to use it to their advantage. They turn brothers against one another. Children against their parents. Neighbors against each other. And all for sake of power. But little do they know the evil will turn on them as well. It’s a disease of the mind. It knows no ally and sees everything different as the enemy.

But this disease we will overcome. This darkness will soon subside. I can see rays of light; rays of light that are breaking through the darkness. The disease of the mind can be cured by that this new light. It’s a beacon of hope for those lost in the dark; hope that will unite the divided minds. That will create harmony amongst the many different tribes. Hope that will allow us to acknowledge the tremendous commonalities that make us unique; those that make us one. No matter who you are, No matter where you are from, let this new light shine. Let those who have fled return to their homes. Let your pride go. Let you vanity go. And let the light fill the darkness that has too long consumed us all. Let us be great together once more.
