Disappearance of People in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan Tamil women are still looking for their lost husbands, sons and daughters, and parents. Many had gone missing in 2009, and many women continue to await their return. These missing persons were handed over to the Sri Lankan Army in 2009, never to be seen again. These missing loved ones have still not returned, and many have started to ask where they are. On February 20, 2017 a parade was held asking three districts for any information and to raise awareness. Many of these missing persons went missing in these three districts which were most affected during and after the war. The struggle was ongoing for more than 2000 days. Flags of the US and EU were also waved in a attempt to draw international attention to their ongoing search for justice and truth.

International Disappearance Day is on August 30th. They have made a parade asking for where are they, but there has been no answer from the Sri Lankan Government. This parade included many civil society representatives, religious leaders, and members of the public who accompanied them in solidarity. Their parents have continued to search for their loved ones, even up until their passing. Signatures were obtained at the culmination rally for a mass petition to be sent to UN Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet.
