Disabled women and family Planning

Child bearing is a personal choice, It is not right for any woman to be hold against her wish to give birth or to declined. In most cultures that is not the case, as far as you are married the number of children will become a family matter whether you consented to it or not.

Person's with disabilities women are not an exception to such rules. We need family planning education, we should know when to put a stop. It's easier to conclude because of discrimination you want to go all out to prove yourself. I remember a vivid scene when a woman with disability was brought in the ward for delivery.

Instead, of midwives rushing to assist her deliver safely, they were rather involved in illicit gossip about her. I mean self pity illicit gossip. nComments like OMG, who did this to her? Aww, people are wicked why do you impregnate a PWD? One nurse went boldly to ask the disabled woman in labour, if Disabled women got feels? Hmmm

Yes, we got feelings. The way your clitoris hangs there so as our own does. We are not trees because we are handicap in some parts of our body. All these societal or cultural norms makes our women shy away from such health facility.

We are deprived of our sex education. When women gathers and discussion sex matter, if a person with Disabilities joins the group the matter die. Like there there the topic is change, awww let's go and fetch water. This is how serious Person's with Disabilities women are sideline in our culture.

It only takes the brave like some few to ignore such dramatization in our community. I want to use this media to encourage my dear colleagues to not give up on your sex education. Go to the health department and request you need to do family planning

What ever questions they throw to you, please throw it back to them. Let them know you went hearing impaired woman does not me you can't ride a man ha. Tell them you will even do it better because you not hear any noise around haha. I mean speak out!

Information in such health centers are not to accessible. No information in Braille for our sisters and mother's who are visually impaired, so it is also with sign language.

There is no any single poster of condoms in one health center I visited. This made me on my way out returned to request for such poster from the health administrative department. Well, they argue they have a lot to post, because they took the old off the walls. Well, I have made my point anyway! So speak out!

How can you asked a pregnant woman wether she got feelings because she is a person with Disability? Oh yeah, I can answer this question over hundred time and still going. Yes got feelings than you do haha
