Dear Younger Me,
I see you even when you hide in the crowd. I hear the silent fears and questions that run through your mind. I know you more than any other mortal, I am you.
I need you to listen to me.(I know listening is a bit difficult for a thirteen year-old).
You are Special. Yes ,you are. Believe it and never let anyone tell you otherwise. You are flawed like any other human, yet unique. You are endowed like no other to play the part you were born for. Accept your uniqueness and be the "you " you are meant to be.
You are powerful! It is that serious. You have the power to do and undo. Every thing you allow is what will be. Only you can stop you. Becareful what you allow. As you discover your powerful self, don't let it intoxicate you, tame your desire to use it over others. Power is most beneficial when from within it lifts others and works with others.
Impossible is nothing if you believe.
Time is your most valuable possession. Spend it well. You have 24 hours each day like anybody else. I understand your wanting to grow up in the twinkle of an eye, but wait, live in the now. That's what you have, now. Stop counting the days, enjoy them. That will make each one count. One day, you will think adulthood is overrated. You will wish for the days you were a girl.
Family is priceless I know it doesn't feel so many times ,but in the end they are the ones who stick around because they love you unconditionally. Know this, family is not only those related to you by blood. They are the ones you feel at home with, the ones you don't need to impress for they already made allowances for your bags and baggages. When you find them, keep them for life.
Don't stop to dream. Dream ,my darling girl and keep dreaming. The day you stop to dream, you begin to loose tiny bits of your self, until you wake up one day and realize you have nothing. Your dreams are keys opening treasure stores, giving you peeks into possibilities. In your dreams you can touch the stars, hug the sun , caress the moon and drink from eternal springs. The galaxies become your playground, time stands still for you and gives you glimpses into things too deep for the simple. The universe, your ally awaits you to engage it, so your unlimited version can be made manifest.
As big as your dream is ,so is how big your mind and impact.
Don't loose your " girlness". As you get older, society will make you think being a girl is a disadvantage. You will be tempted to put away that little girl in you aside. Alas! What a world it would be to not be able to let down your hair and dance in the rain, or sing and dance in the shower.
Don't fail to Laugh out loud at jokes, pick and smell flowers, listen to the birds sing and tumble in the grass. It is okay to want to play house and pretend you are a mother. Don't be ashamed of keeping your dolls. It only shows your tendency to nurture. You are always a Princess in your castle.
Embrace aloneness. Now, you fear being alone, but as you ascend the ladder of life, it gets lonely up there. Don't be afraid of being left to yourself. Many you see today will not be with you at the defining moments of your life. In the real sense, you are never really all alone. The heavens have their eyes on you, and they've got you covered. This is the crowd you really need and must keep. Learn to enjoy your own company.
Understand what love is and what it is not. When you get to fifteen, you will start to feel akward around this boy. Baby girl, it won't last, it's a passing thing. You will crush on more boys. They will desire to take from you. When you are wiser and older, you will know 'the one'. At that time you will be ready to commit to sharing your life with someone who respects you and wants to give himself to you. Know the difference and it will save you from heartbreaks. For now, face your books, discover your self.
Be your own competition. You will be foolish if you compare yourself to anyone. You are not in competition with anyone. Run your own race. If the society sets the bar for you, you can be sure it will set it too high or too low. Determine what success means to you.
Choose kindness always. Kindness never goes out of fashion. Let it be the denominator you use for how you treat everyone. Every one is worthy of kindness. You have loads of it for every one.
Embrace change. You'll change, people will change and things will change. Your body will change. It will feel akward at some point, but you'll be fine. You are only becoming, You are like those moths you love to see transform into the butterflies that enchant you so. Use technology, don't let it use you. Don't loose your humanness as you improve your self to meet up with current trends.
Don't stop trying. When you fail at anything, try again. It doesn't matter how many times you fail, it is all about you trying. You are not a failure because you fail, only if you stop trying. Take those baby steps, they will lead you to gain grounds.
Listen to your body. learn the language of your body. Know what it says to you at every point. Care for it. It is what houses your spirit, if you do not care for it, it will break down. Eat well, drink water and exercise your body. You've got to keep that body healthy so you can hang around this Earth a long time. So learn to rest!
Find passion. Learn to enjoy what you do. Find what you love to do and put your whole heart in it. You are not meant to do everything. Your passion is the fuel of your life. Fill your tank and pursue it.
There is so much I want to say to you, but how can I get to tell a thirteen year-old everything?
I will not stop until I let you know that you should not be bordered about being Miss Popular. Instead gain value and people will flock to you. You are beauty with brains. Being a girl is not about lipsticks and dresses, you are a girl and more!
You can be anything you want to be and if that 'anything' has not been discovered yet, be a trail Blazer, open new frontiers.
Finally, You are worthy of love. Believe in you. Love your self so you can love rightly.
Forgive yourself , speak to yourself kindly always. Respect yourself ,if you do, others will. Be your own cheerleader, your number 1 fan.
Keep your memories in a book and let's see what you make of your life.
I end with the words of Maya Angelou ( a woman you will come to love and admire).
" when you know better... Strive to do better".
These are wings I am giving you.
Fly high!
With much love,
Older me.❤️
