Dear Younger Me

Dear Younger Me,

Hi, Luv!

I’m confident you know who I am. We’ve met before when you were just dreaming under the stars. Back when guilt, shame, and worry filled you up to the brim yet; you still felt empty. I see you. I’m here.

Thank you for being you. For laughing your heart out despite others saying you’re too loud. For not buying into the trends they said you should follow. For asking the tough questions. For the courage to be “the weird one.” For your thirst for life regardless of how bleak it has been. Even though modern society asked you to behave differently, you strived to keep in touch with who you are.

I’m in your debt, I am who I am now because of you. I won’t ask you to undo the ugly tragedies of the past. No, I won’t ask you to do things differently, either. After years of trial and error, I learned how important these challenges were to crafting the masterpiece that I am today.  But don’t think for a second that problems will stop or that you’ll be perfectly calm nothing bothers you anymore. You’ll still cry but now you know it’s just an emotion. An automatic response to pain. They’re a natural part of life because in the end you’re bound to develop the coping skills you need to move forward. The key is in your hands. It has always been no matter how many times it was taken from you.

It’s your birthright to express yourself.

You made me realize what I have. How much of a privilege it is just to be here.

To exist. To live. To connect with others and build a community. To manifest your dreams into reality.

You’ll know what you need to do when the time comes. Listen carefully to what your inner guidance is whispering. The subtle glance of a stranger, the dark circles under the eyes of your mother, or the butterflies on your stomach when you’re about to speak in front of others. Listen to yourself with self-compassion. And don’t forget to get that sugar rush when you need it! Life is so much more than its lessons. Open yourself up to its magical beauty.

Keep believing that the universe is on your side… because it is.

With Infinite Love and Gratitude,

You, 10 years from now
