first-story
This is Riham, young enterpronour from Gaza - Palestine, I had a dream that is supporting my community and empower the refugee women in Gaza, I did that through Yadaiha project. Yadaiha’s inspiration comes from Abeer, a refugee from Gaza, and a woman with a dream unmet. Abeer suffered from a severe neurological disease that hindered her ability to control her limbs. The current Yadaiha team, who were only volunteers at the time, was very invested in Abeer’s case. Abeer had a magnificent talent in handicraft work, specifically embroidery. From this struggle and this talent, Yadaiha was born as a project to help Abeer cover the costs of her treatment. Abeer was with us when we initiated our project, but no longer is. She passed away, and her ideas and passion were passed on to us. They were the beginning of a project and a movement for empowerment.
From there, the Yadaiha team, who we are two engineers women from Gaza-Palestine; I am one of them, decided to direct its efforts in the search for women in need, to create opportunities for them. The team hoped that these opportunities would help women realize their hidden dreams.
After six months, we faced a problem that there is no local market for the handmade embroidery products, the people in Gaza can't afford to pay due to the financial situation, it was a big challenge, stopping creating income for the women is our big fear. We started thinking of looking for a global market where people can pay for unique products, because of that I decided to move to the USA to start looking for a market for these handmade products, and another partner who is the designer stayed in Gaza to manage everything from there.
We succeed, it likes a new life for Yadaiha, it is registered as a profit company in the USA from 9 months ago, now creates jobs, empowers and financially supports the refugee women of Gaza by granting them a space to deliver their talents through producing unique and modern Handmade Palestinian embroideries scarves, bags and jewelry in Gaza and ship it to the USA for selling then the money goes back to the women.
Now 40 refugee women are working for Yadaiha, that is not enough, we need more and more, our women are the only income sources for their families, each woman carries stories, dreams, and hope. Our challenge is looking for our opportunities, we still need help in increasing our sales to let the women produce more, we need to find the opportunities to increase the revenue and our market.
Yadaiha does not only focus on supporting gifted refugees, but also on creating an environment that enhances their talent in handicrafts, and that aids them with working on contemporary designs and marketing them to the global market.
Yadaiha team and women are working together to stay alive and provide more opportunities for more women and families. We can't keep moving in our dreams without Your Support.
