Corona epidemic causing menstrual problems in women: Dr. Sujata Sanjay

The whole world is grappling with the threat of the highly contagious covid-19 virus. To avoid this, it is best to adopt cleanliness and social distancing. It is advisable to wash hands repeatedly with soap to maintain personal hygiene. Apart from being indoors, it is advisable to have a balanced diet and exercise. This will help the body to fight against diseases, but during periods women need to pay more attention to their health. There are approximately 335 million menstruating women and girls in India, who face multilevel barriers to effective menstrual hygiene management (MHM) due to various social and economic factors. According to the Health Ministry data, only 12 percent of the country's women and girls use sanitary napkins, while the majority of women use clothes.

Sanjay Orthopedic Spine & Maternity Center Jakhan Dehradun Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Dr. Sujata Sanjay President award holder told that the power to fight diseases decreases in women during periods. In such a situation, the probability of infection also increases. Therefore, focus on health and nutrition along with menstrual hygiene in covid-19. Mostly women forget to take care of themselves in the pursuit of family. Monthly period is not a crime but a normal physical process. If we talk openly in the house and society, then the importance of cleanliness can also be understood. For which we have to create an environment and change the old traditional thinking. This cleanliness will keep women healthy and will give confidence to move forward, never stop, and eliminate fear from the root.

Dr. Sujata Sanjay told that on 28th May, Menstrual Hygiene Day is celebrated all over the world. Its main objective was to make girls and women aware of hygiene during menstruation. The date 28 was chosen because women usually arrive within 28 days of menstruation.

There is a lockdown in the entire country due to the Corona virus. This crisis has affected the menstrual hygiene and health of women globally. In many places, due to the lockdown, the supply of the products related to them is not available, and women are constantly falling victim to this infection. During the worldwide corona virus epidemic, it is possible that people are feeling more stressed than ever. Even if they don't realize it. This constant stress can cause strange problems in the body. Women who are quarantine or are in the hospital due to being found positive in the corona virus examination are struggling to maintain menstrual hygiene. Therefore, the managers managing the system should ensure adequate supply and train the employees so that they can facilitate them..

Dr. Sujata Sanjay told that this epidemic causes more concern for women, because it can worsen their menstrual cycle . Periods sometimes do not occur, ie amenorrhea occurs when a traumatic event is revealed. Stress activates our hormonal pathway which promotes the release of cortisol, also known as stress hormone. This happens because the level of cortisol in the body increases during times of high stress. Excessive release of cortisol can suppress normal levels of reproductive hormones. This prevents ovulation and periods. Dysmenorrhea is also associated with high stress conditions. It involves unbearable pain in the uterus during periods. People who already experience period pain are more likely to be affected in this way.

Dr. Sujata says that in any situation remedies should be found to relieve stress. Some home remedies can be adopted for this. The use of basil leaves will help in reducing stress conditions. Chew basil leaves in the morning or make some fresh drink by adding some leaves in hot water. You can also do this by drinking Tulsi tea. Apart from basil, the consumption of green tea also relieves stress. A cup of green tea with honey and lemon is a great way to relieve stress. Drink the root of Ashwagandha in a glass of warm milk every night. This will also improve sleep and will also help in reducing stress.

Wear clean underwear to maintain menstrual hygiene in covid-19. Also, remember that the fabric is comfortable so that air can reach the vagina. If you sweat too much, change your innerwear frequently. To maintain menstrual hygiene in covid-19, also keep changing your bedsheet to avoid mess and infection. In addition to sanitary pads, you can also use tampons and menstrual cups. If using a tampon, change it every two hours. You can also use cotton cloth. Just remember to wash the cloth thoroughly with dettol before using it. Also, avoid washing the used clothes repeatedly. This causes the infection to spread rapidly.

Light physical and mental exercises. Yoga, meditation and light exercise can prove to be good during periods. This increases the strength to fight against diseases. However, heavy exercise is prohibited. Eat a balanced diet. Eating and drinking habits affect your health. Eat a diet rich in vitamins and protein during menstruation. Include fruits, sprouted grains, dairy products and dry fruits in your diet. At this time it would be better not to eat a non-vegetarian diet. Take rest. Do household chores in such a way that you are not tired. Take a break in between for this. Pay attention to the health of your mind and body during lockdown. Promote personal hygiene among your family members as well.
