The community women leader and the traditional rulers pledging to work together to stop VAWG in their community
"Traditional rulers and community leaders in Nigeria were pledging and joining their voices to say NO to violence against women in their communities” This happened during our advocacy visits to some communities recently in our efforts to reduce violence against women and girls in Nigeria.
Women inspiration Development center (WIDC) in collaboration with Women Advocates Research & Documentation Center (WARDC) supported by Ford Foundation is embarking on a project in building community accountability mechanisms and enhance collaboration between women leaders and traditional institutions in addressing gender-based violence in our society.
This project is set to achieve the:
Reduction in the occurrences of Violence against women in Nigeria
To enhance engagement, capacity and accountability of community leaders, gate keepers, traditional and religious leaders
To strengthens the agency and voices of women and girls who have become advocates and activist to push for greater reforms and accountability
To contribute to cases reported and addressed by service providers in communities
To improve the capacities of women groups in organizing and mobilizing to address issues of violence against women and girls in Southwest of Nigeria.
Our activities includes:
Advocacy visit to community leaders and key stakeholders to get their support and buy-in to the project.
Community dialogue meetings with stakeholders to bring a lasting solution to violence against women and girls
Village square meeting where all villagers will gather and the traditional rulers, community leaders, market women leaders and women groups will demonstrate their condemnation of violence against women.
