Clubfoot Outreach Program
Nov 10, 2020
initiative

I was born with a clubfoot deformity with which in my growing up I faced stigma and stereotype at every stage of my life. At home I was called names, in school I was called names, in the communities I have names. I had names at all levels of interactions and was excluded from community life. Some people will say I am not strong enough to take part in activities because it will hurt my leg, others will say she is sick, my family says I am fragile
I became tired of names, discrimination and exclusion. I wanted to prove my abilities and I choose a career in community development focusing on respect of rights for women and girls with disabilities. I became very passionate in transforming the lives of my sisters with disabilities so as to prevent them from facing the challenges I faced.
This initiative is to identify children with deformities, women and girls with disabilities and link them for transformative opportunities. To help their limbs corrected either surgically or through ways that best suit the nature of their deformities. Each persons will gain assistance based on their category and degree of disability/need.
I started this initiative in February of this year and have impacted 6 children. There are more children I identify frequently who need assistance. Some need funds to access medical care, others need assistive devices like wheelchairs , and writing material for the blind and opportunities to gain economic empowerment skills, etc...
I look forward to continue assisting and empowering women and girls with disabilities in communities.
