CLOTHES

God worked on my heart and convicted me; my goal is to be open and honest with you about where I am, just because the culture says it’s “okay” doesn’t mean it’s right.

“But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘Where are you?’ And he said, ‘I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.’”

It all started after sin entered the world. Notice that Adam and Eve grabbed some fig leaves and tried to cover themselves. What did God do? He killed an animal by shedding blood and clothed them with skins. Their fig leaves wouldn’t do.

“Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.” (Hebrews 9:22)

Clothes are so much bigger than “just being modest.” Clothes are a picture of the gospel! Clothing is a constant reminder of what Christ did for us and the price that He paid for our sins. Clothing is a representation of Christ shedding His blood to save us.

When we start viewing clothing from that lens, covering our bodies makes much more sense. Clothes started back in Genesis and should continue until we are ultimately perfected in Heaven with God.

Set your own standards for modesty and then stick to them. Be confident in your convictions. Study modesty and figure out why you do what you do.

You have an audience of One you are trying to please. Dress to impress your Creator, not His creation. Don’t let the culture push you around any longer. You have much more at stake than getting nods of approval from the world.

I hope this post has opened your eyes to think about your clothing in an entirely new way.
