Climate Connections - Shifting the Power with Young Women

Yesterday I wrapped up supporting the Shifting the Power Coalition Young Women and Climate Change consultations that brought together 60 diverse young women, including young women with disabilities, from the YWCAs of Papua New Guinea, Samoa & Solomon Islands, Talitha Project, ActionAid Vanuatu’s Woman I TokTok Tugetha & WITTT Sunshine network, Vanuatu Young Women for Change and Transcend Oceania who linked up from national and rural hubs for a 2-day young women-led consultation with the support of the Australia-Pacific Climate Partnership.

Between 2015 and 2020 these young women have been on the frontline of the climate crisis experiencing the devastating impact of successive cyclones (TC Pam, TC Winston, TC Gita TC Harold and TC Yasa) and living with the climate change impact on their water, food and health security.

They have solutions including what and how they want to use information and communication technology! They are learning together across the Coalition building on Pacific women’s own innovation such as Woman Wetem Weta.
This is why they must be at the forefront of transforming the climate crisis to climate justice.
